What is Gypsy Cat Rescue?
Gypsy Cat Rescue is a network
of volunteers that dedicate time, energy, and personal funds into
rescuing, rehabbing, and re-homing cats to forever homes. They
successfully maintain several feral colonies in the Boise/Meridian area
of Idaho. Simply put, Gypsy Cat Rescue is just a group of people who care
deeply about animals wellbeing, have a primary focus on cats, and do
what they can to make a difference.
What is a feral colony?
A feral
colony is exactly what it sounds to be: a colony of wild cats that rule
over a particular area of land. They do not bother residents/businesses
when maintained. It is very important to have professionals (yes, we
call ourselves professionals. We have special tools that allow us to
trap safely and it would shock you how many times we have successfully
done this.) trap, neuter/spay, and release these cats back into their
feral colony. Many people think that if you stop feeding them, the cats
will go away. This is simply not the case. They will just die a slow and
painful death. The most humane thing is to fix and release them. It is
important that they are released back to their area because they
maintain dominance in this area and keep other ferals away.
How can we contact you?
The
easiest way to contact us is through email: gypsycatrescue@gmail.com. We
check it as much as possible and usually respond within 48 hours. From
the email, we will direct you to a specialist that would be most helpful
to you.
"I love what you do, how can I be involved?"
We
appreciate your willingness to help and need all the help we can get.
There are many ways that you can contribute: fostering, letting us know
if you know an area where cats are that are in need of help, donating
cat or kitten food/formula, donating funds to help support the cause. No
matter what you choose, any little bit helps and because we are all
volunteers, everything is out of pocket for us. We help as many cats as
we possible can, but sometimes we are limited by our means and any help
is greatly appreciated. See "How To Make A Difference" tab located at the top of the webpage for more information and a list of helpful donations.
*We are not licensed or practicing veternarians. All opinions are our own and obtained through our own experience. We encourage you to seek out and speak with professional veterinarians about anything you are concerned about! A lot of the information that we know about is from speaking to professional veterinarians and we would be nowhere without them!*
